  • Two 18-hole courses with caves, waterfalls, and adventure- style theme
  • Story-based experience inspired by pirates + the Lost Colony- more than just putt putt

Visit the Wright Brothers Memorial Museum

  • Explore where the first flight happened in 1903
  • Walk the paths showing the actual flight distances
  • One of the most iconic landmarks in the OBX
  • Would not necessarily recommend for squirmy little ones, better for school age kids

Explore Nags Head Woods Preserve

  • Quiet hiking trails + wildlife spotting
  • Great break from the beach crowds

Go fishing at Avalon Fishing Pier

  • Fish or take a walk out on the pier
  • No license needed to fish on pier
  • Grab a drink and a snack at Stonefish BeachBar

Get Ice Cream at the Surfin' Spoon

  • Self-serve frozen yogurt + tons of toppings
  • Fun surf-themed vibe with games, surf videos, and a laid-back beach feel
  • Offers vegan, dairy-free, and low-fat options

Insider tips

  • Kill Devil Hills is the most central OBX town, so it's the best home base- you're close to Corolla (north) and Nags Head/Hatteras (south) for easy day trips
  • KDH is also home to "french fry alley" where a handful of commercial fast food restaurants are located
  • Traffic is usually most congested here. Hop over to the beachroad to avoid unnecessary stops and starts
