Tips and Tricks

  • Every local knows you never head north to  Duck or Corolla on Saturdays, otherwise known as turnover days. Most rentals go from Saturday-Saturday and a couple are Sunday-Sunday. Saturdays are the worst day to come onto the beach, unless you follow these tips:

  • Plan to get on the OBX  early, around 8-9. Then find a suggested beach access with bathrooms and showers and enjoy a day at the beach until your rental is ready. Better yet, after the beach, go find a restaurant and relax. Your rental will still be there. Traffic usually is clearer around 6-7pm. You can certainly sit in traffic, I would just rather make good use of a beach day. Plan ahead and have a quick bag ready with beach essentials and a change of clothes.

  • Hwy 158 is the main road also known as the bypass.  Slower traffic use the rightmost lane, faster traffic use the left hand lane. Watch your speed as each town has their own speed limits.

  • Use the beachroad,( hwy12 )if traffic on hwy 158 is really bad. The beachroad runs parallel to hwy 158 from milepost 2-16.
